From Rothesay to Lochranza, by bus and ferry

Isle of Arran
What a journey today, to get us from the Isle of Bute to the Isle of Arran! I find that public transport can totally get you places in Scotland, if you have the time - and are willing to get up early.

Today in a few key figures:
- 3 buses
- 3 ferrys
- 2 deers
- 4 rabbits
- 7 cygnets (baby swans)

We got on a bus at 7:19 this morning from Rothesay. This bus took us through a very small ferry crossing to the Cowal peninsula. At this time, the buses do school runs, and we stayed on while the bus was picking up kids for school. At the school, we changed bus to get to Portavadie.

From Portavadie, we hopped on the second ferry of the day to get to Tarbert on the Kintyre peninsula. Tarbert is a lovely village, home to a big yacht race each year, it will take place this weekend. We visited the castle in Tarbert, bought some food supplies and patiently waited for the next bus.

The day had started under a thick and low cloud cover, it completely lifted while we were in Tarbert and we got a clear and sunny sky for the rest of the day.

Then on to Claonaig, again at the time when the bus is doing school runs, where we had a nice connection with the ferry to Arran. The views towards Arran, under a clear sky, while we were crossing, were simply breathtaking!
