Inchcolm Island and the Forth bridges
First firth of Forth island trip, with nice views of the Forth bridges as a bonus! On a very sunny day, we took the train from Waverley to the last station before the Forth rail bridge, then headed down to Queensferry where we took a ferry.
As part of the ferry tour we disembarked on Inchcolm island and had a couple hours to visit it. After a nice picnic we had a look at the nice abbey there, apparently one of the best preserved abbey in Scotland!
Then we walked around the island, especially up to the highest point to get a view.
Back on the ferry, we saw a couple of sunbathing seals, before going round the three bridges.
Three bridges cross the firth at this location, each built in a different century. The oldest is a rail bridge, while the newest is not yet open to road traffic.
The newest bridge is still under construction. |
The red Forth bridge, amazing design from the XIXth century |

Back to land, we took a stroll through Queensferry before heading back to Edinburgh!
